"I LOVE MONTREAL"

In the summer of 2025, Marché Floh teamed up with renowned local artists, Francorama, Catherine Potvin, and Chien Champion to launch a collection of merch celebrating the arts and cultures of Montreal. Throughout this project, Marché Floh interviewed all three artists to gain a deeper understanding of their work, their process, and their love for the city.

CHIEN CHAMPION

The following is a verbatim transcription of our video interview with Chien Champion. Minor edits were made only for clarity. No answers were added or altered.

My name is Felipe, alias Chien Champion. I'm an illustrator, visual artist, and director. Since 2020, I've been working full-time as a visual artist and illustrator.

I'm quite an extrovert, basically. I talk to people in the street since I was a kid. My parents used to take me to restaurants and I'd go talk to people at the table, I'd tell stories, I'd draw them. I was 7 or 8 years old, I was already in that spirit.

Sharing, that's what's inspires me. Sharing with people, that's the first thing that inspires me the most. I grew up in the Portuguese neighborhood in the Mile-End (Montreal). I remember that Portugal won a football (soccer) game at the World Cup. I was wearing my Portuguese jersey. I'd put up a Portuguese flag, like, « Hey, Portugal! » Like, we're together, with our neighbours and all that. Everyone would get together.

Mile-End is also a very Jewish neighborhood. There are Portuguese, Ukrainians, Italians, there were a lot of Chileans. There's a bit of everything, so everyone gathers. It all shapes who I am, and it's part of Montreal, the mix of cultures.

I love Montreal. It represents everything to me. Maybe the first word I said when I was a baby. No, but honestly, I embody it. Every day, I think about it or I say it. From my feet to the tip of my head, I defend this sentence.

CATHERINE POTVIN

The following is a verbatim transcription of our video interview with Catherine Potvin. Minor edits were made only for clarity. No answers were added or altered.

I'm Catherine Potvin. I live in Little Italy. How would I describe myself? I'm very radical, very soft. I have a lot of duality.

[Earliest memories of art] I don't really have alot of memories. I used to play the piano, but I knew I didn't want to play the songs that were already written. I wanted to invent my songs. I remember putting my head in the piano to get as much sound as possible.

[On social media's impact on art] I'm fascinated just by scrolling on the internet. I'm fascinated by how much humans can be creative and incredible beings. I'm just fascinated by what humans are capable of doing when we give them liberty.

[On innocence in art] The older you get, the more aware you are of things. The less innocent you are. Innocence is magnificent in art because it's the feeling that's raw. It's the most truthful thing you can get when you're not plagued by the outside world.

[On Montreal] I love it. I think it's a place of opportunity. Something's always happening. I think it's inspiring, literally. People are cool, they're open, they're interested. Montreal is a great city. I wouldn't move from here.

FRANCORAMA

The following is a verbatim transcription of our video interview with Francorama. Minor edits were made only for clarity. No answers were added or altered.

My name is Franco alias Francorama. I'm from Montreal. I'm a muralist and illustrator. I work with images.

You know what's funny? I never wanted that! I've never been the kind of person to be like, I'm an artist, I make art, I like art. No, I was an athlete before. It was really during an athletic practice that someone was talking about going to the Cégep in Old Montreal and there was a drawing test. And I was like, you know what? I'm going to try my luck.

For me, success as an artist is creating conversations, creating reflections, asking questions. When I was younger, I felt so bad for being the person who always asks too many questions. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? But I think these questions really allow you to trace your life the way you want. So for me, if I can allow people to just question their daily lives a little more, I did my job.

I love Montreal! Honestly, I walk around Montreal all the time. Sometimes I just go down and highfive, high-five everybody I see. Montreal is the best city in the world. You're going to live the best life. And all you have to do is go out and walk.
